Each record is painted on one side and plays two NSPS holiday classics on the other side: "Santa Hat" featuring Deni Bonet and "Shouldn't Start on Christmas.
The price is high because each disk was separately recorded via lathe, so each has a unique recording and paint job. (Don't worry — we won't actually make any money! ;-) ) Note that these lathe-cuts are not high-fidelity, but scratchy, mono recordings. That's all part of the fun.

lyrics
If I took cocaine I might be more in touch with my surroundings
And this Capra film might move with magic once again
But I don't snort drugs, and you shouldn't start on Christmas
Because the holidays are just to bridge the gap from now to then
If we get too numb, we won't feel the snow freezing our limbs off
But it's difficult to concentrate all of the time
Because the path's snowed over, and you can't clear it on Christmas
We'll stay in, stay warm and listen to iced-over chimes
For the season we'll pretend that we do not give in to anger
We'll dust off the songs and tell the world just how we feel
Because we always fight, but you shouldn't start on Christmas
Every year the world should take a month or two to rest and heal

Withered Hand is quieter and more straight-forward than NSPS, but shares a certain outlook. Dan Willson is one of the best songwriters around—he can make you smile and tear up in the same rhyme. NSPS
In addition to making me feel better by taking (almost?) as long as NSPS to finish a new album, swo17 washes over you with rich sonic textures. Become one with the music. NSPS
